BASIL

Like most all herbs Basil has a lot of uses. Can be used in the kitchen as a flavor in cooking or a garden recipe. For centuries we have used it as a treatment or supplement to help in maintaining our health. Basil is considered a strong antibacterial and antispasmodic. Has been used for whooping cough and when applied to insect bites or venomous bite it can draw out the poison. Basil contains vitamins A, D, B2, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. Below you will find almost a hundred types that can be grown and harvested for your benefit. But, please, use organic methods to grow basil it will benefit you even more.

  • Basil, Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum)Meaning: Princely

    A herb that grows 12-18 inches(30-45 cm) in full sun and almost any pH soil. Average water needs and is very attractive to bees, butterflies.

  • Cinnamon Basil

    Herb growing to 24-36 inches(60-90 cm) in full sun with acidic needs, foliage is aromatic.

    Cinnamon Basil -
    The Basil Cinnamon, ‘Ocimum basilicum,’ produces very attractive violet stems and veining that complement perfectly the lavender flowers. Cinnamon basil can be used to create a perfect summer tea. The name Cinnamon comes from its light aroma and flavor. In addition to being added to all foods that require basil, this variety is also the perfect candidate for adding to potpourri. The seeds should be planted in the spring, about one or two weeks after the last average frost date. They should be planted in well draining soil with lots of organic matter.
