In Size Grapes May Be Small

grapes full of flavonoids

In size grapes may be small, but they are as tall as a goliath when it goes to health perks. Delectable and sweet, grapes are nature's primary snack food.

Grapes are rich with flavonoids, which yield them their bright and striking colors. Flavonoids are potent antioxidants that help defend against diseases of all forms, like cancer and heart disease.

One especially powerful antioxidant detected in great quantity in grapes is resveratrol. Not only does this antioxidant have an important role in avoiding heart disease and cancer, it enhances blood flow to the brain, which lowers the danger of stroke. It also assists in lowering cholesterol and regulating blood pressure. A 2005 research published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry indicates that resveratrol may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease.

Large amounts of resveratrol are believed to be a key element in clarifying the French paradox. Many years scientists have questioned why the French, whose normal diet is high in fat and cholesterol, have an unusually low amount of heart disease. it seems that at least a portion of the credit should go to resveratrol. The French have a habit of drinking red wine every day which provides a great deal of this impressive antioxidant.

White wine drinkers can express great joy also as white wines also have resveratrol, though not near as much as the red wines. This is on account of much of the resveratrol is located in the skin of the grape. White wine is made after the skins have been threw away, so it is not in touch with the skins for very long. Red wine are made before the skins are removed, which permits more time for resveratrol to be assimilated.

But not everybody can drink wine on a daily basis. Wine causes some individuals migraines, and others don't like the taste. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid alcoholic beverages altogether. Luckily, grape juice has a lot of the benefits that wine has minus the alcohol.

Grape jams and jellies are beneficial also, even though they also have sweeteners and preservatives. The best thing is to stay with fresh grapes. Try growing some in your yard, organically of course. They make a scrumptious and pleasantly new snack on warm days. Toss them together with berries, melon, kiwi and to make a tasty fruit salad. Keep grapes in the refrigerator so they will last longer and not go bad.
