In size grapes may be small, but they are as tall as a goliath when it goes to health perks. Delectable and sweet, grapes are nature's primary snack food.
Grapes are rich with flavonoids, which yield them their bright and striking colors. Flavonoids are potent antioxidants that help defend against diseases of all forms, like cancer and heart disease.
One especially powerful antioxidant detected in great quantity in grapes is resveratrol. Not only does
this antioxidant have an important role in avoiding heart disease and cancer, it enhances blood flow to the brain, which lowers the danger of stroke. It also assists in lowering cholesterol and regulating blood pressure. A 2005 research published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry indicates that resveratrol may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease.
Large amounts of resveratrol are believed to be a key element in clarifying the French paradox.
