Herb Medicine- Herbs and foods, for most of the world, have always been the main source of medicine. When scientists discovered how to isolate pure chemicals from plants it was very exciting. They did experiments to measure how the body reacts to a specific substance. Modern research has certified many of the old uses of herbs and explained how they work.

Herbs can no longer be considered as superstition and folklore. They are prestigious and reliable. Scientists throughout the world have published thousands of exciting laboratory and clinical studies on herbs. Supplement manufacturers are using the results of this research to design extracts that can be prescribed or selected over the counter with confidence and safety. Many new nutritional supplement combinations are being based on these recent scientific discoveries in botany, microbiology and disease processes. They often produce quick and impressive improvements in health.

Herbs work by helping the body to balance and heal itself. Hippocrates (the "father of medicine") taught, "Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food." Herbs are sources of food energy and more. They are even more than sources of vital trace minerals. We are like plants that need to grow, distribute energy and reproduce. Plants also have immune systems which protect them against bacteria, fungus, etc. When we eat whole fresh fruits and vegetables or properly-prepared supplements, we consume the thousands of special chemicals (phytonutrients) that the plants created for their own welfare. Our bodies are designed to absorb, transform and distribute these special nutrients for our welfare.

Herbs have a hugh range of therapeutic properties. They might activate, build or cleanse the body. They might be warmer or cooler, tighter or looser. Herbs often provide special benefits to specific organs or body systems such as hawthorn for the heart, kelp for the thyroid or saw palmetto for the prostate. Over the years, people and herbalists have identified these properties and uses of herbs. They've used their knowledge to design special herb formulas that work to be better than the sum of their parts.

Nutriental programs combine herbs, vitamins, minerals and other supplements to conquer health problems from many directions at once. When we have a health problem, it probably wasn't caused by some single major deficiency.

They are beginning to explore ways to incorporate herbal medicine and other complementary therapies into Doctors and hospitals existing protocols. As this discovery of good nutrition and therapeutic supplements continues, everyone will be delighted to discover that their medicines have favorable side effects.
