Dried herbs are stronger but not tastier than fresh herbs, and powdered herbs are stronger than crumbled. A useful formula is 1/4 tsp. powdered herbs = 3/4 to 1 tsp. crumbled = 2 tsp. fresh.

Leaves should be cut up to fine particles because the more cut surface exposed, the more flavor will be released.

A mortar and pestle can be kept in the kitchen to powder dry herbs or crush fresh herbs when needed.

Scissors are often the best utensil for cutting fresh herbs.

Use herbs sparely until you are familiar with its strength. The aromatic oils can be strong and objectionable if too much is used.

Flavoring of herbs is lost by extended cooking. Add herbs to soups and stews about 45 minutes before completing the cooking. But for cold foods herbs should be added several hours or overnight before serving.

For casseroles or hot sauces, add finely chopped herbs or dried herbs directly to the mixture.

Freezing herbs is often the best way to retain flavor. Larger portions freeze nicely in ziplock bags.

Soothe burned skin with a shower or bath as soon as possible. Then mix 3 drops peppermint oil into 1/4 cup of honey and apply to affected areas.

You risk mildew if you don't wait until after the dew dries on your plants. Your plants oils are at their best once they have been warmed from the sun.

Plant some Nettles plants that repel pests and attract beneficial insects.

Your plants will be more healthier if you harvest a little at a time. To produce a sturdy, fuller plant pinch off tips.

If you save your cardboard egg cartons and you have ready made seedling trays. No need to buy the fancy ones.

Place cooled chamomile tea bags on your eyes and relax for 20 minutes. The tea bags soothe irritated eyes.

Catnip makes a fragrant and delicious tea. It is relaxing and tastes. Plant some for both you and your cat!

To preserve parsley´s flavor, store it chopped and frozen in a bag. The best flavor comes from fresh parsley. It is easy to grow on a sunny windowsill. Sow seeds in October and have all you need during the winter months.

Great herbs for a successful windowbox garden are: sage, thyme, basil, oregano and chives.

If you experience any unusual or adverse reactions to any herbal product within 8 hours stop using it!

Baldness-- the skins of such things as potatoes, peppers, sprouts and cucumbers contain silicon giving strength to hair and nails.

Gota Kola, nettle and rosemary may help stimulate hair growth.

Make a STRONG scalp rinse using garden sage. Massage the scalp as a daily tonic or rinse hair following washing.

Foods high in iron, like kelp or other sea vegetables, are good to keep hair healthy. Also helpful are flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil and Vitamin E.

Herbs for the bath that are refreshing: basil, rosemary, mint, pine and thyme.

Herbs for the bath that are relaxing: catnip, chamomile, jasmine, lavender and lime flowers.

When your muscles ache from garden work, make a strong concentrate of fresh Rosemary and add about a quart to your bath. Soak ---for 20 minutes.

Make a basic mouthwash with 1/4 cup breath-freshening herbs such as mint, parsley and anise. Add 2 tablespoonful cheap vodka and 2 cups water. Blend these, strain it and start gargling.
