oriental fruit moth Oriental Fruit Moth The caterpillars bore into the green twigs of fruit trees and into the fruit, leaving soft masses of fruit skin.

Attract native parasitic wasps and flies.

Take the infected fruit off the tree and destroy.


pill bug Pill bugs Mainly just a nuisance, not known to bite, sting, or feed on plants.

Best control is beer traps. Pour beer into a glass, jar, or dish and set it at ground level.


roaches Roaches Use diatomaceous earth, or spray with citrus oil.

Boric acid dusted lightly indoors also works.

Make boric balls made by mixing boric acid, flour, and sugar with water, then forming into balls or cakes.


scale Scale Related to aphids and mealybug but are less mobile.

Release ladybugs and praying mantids.

Soak a rag with soapy water and apply.


slugs Slugs Use citrus oil, garlic-pepper tea and diatomaceous earth sprayed on your plants as needed.

Put a ring of bone meal or colloidal phosphate around plants.


snails Snails Use citrus oil, garlic-pepper tea and diatomaceous earth sprayed on your plants as needed.

spider mite Spider mites The first signs of pest are yellow speckled areas and webbing on leaves.

They suck juice from cells on leaf undersides weakening plant. They attack many vegetables, fruits and herbs.

The use of beneficial insects (excellent organic pest remedies) such as green lacewings and predatory mites. Can be water blasted to remove from plant.


squash bug Squash bugs Feeds on squash and pumpkins.

Hand-pick eggs from leaves of plants or or spray citrus oil on them.


sugar ant Sugar ants A nuisance usually in the home.

Keep areas clean, use boric acid, flour, and sugar as bait.

Use baking soda for indoor problems.
